The temperature profile standards as AFNOR or ISTA are what they are and give a base to international shipping lane map. They are sometimes adapted to certain shipping situations but Cryopak’s experience shows that they are now not sufficient to ensure that your thermal sensitive products will be shipped in these conditions.

On certain routes, climate at arrival has also to be seriously considered because the packaging is generally at the end of its performance and unexpected customs issue are often the pet peeve of the exporting company.

A shipping lane can be composed by only controlled steps or only ambient steps or by a mix of both. Temperature profile standards only show possible external climatic conditions during shipment by excluding the possibility of to have controlled steps as cold storage or temperature controlled trucks. That can be crucial for the real cold chain performance of your products as if you do not to consider a step at +5°C during few hours during your shipment, your +2°C +8°C products can be exposed to a freezing risk. Cryopak wil advise you different configurations able to face to these shipping lane constraints. Cryopak also works with its customers to adapt their distribution mode if necessary.

AFNOR temperature profiles are adapted to moderated european climates as France, United Kingdom, Germany… but they show their limit while exporting to Norway, Spain or Eastern Europe.

Worse case scenario has to be studied and taken in consideration to know how and in how many time to react face to these unexpected factors. In this case, stress tests are a good way to show the limit of an isothermal solution. But actually, worse cases do not reflect the majority of your shipments and defining a cooling element configuration only on this criteria can have important financial impacts and a big loss of time.

Equipment Thermal Mapping

Thermal equipment qualification is performed to ensure the equipment is properly installed according to the manufacturer specifications and your internal procedures. The protocol is written to allow technical analysis of all applicable installation requirements and operational functions of your fridge, cold room or freezer. It’s also an essential exercise to determine the location of the real-time monitoring system sensors.

We can ensure that your refer trailer or storage refrigeration environment is properly maintaining your product at the required temperature by performing a mapping of the environment. We will supply a report showing any temperature gradients or deviations that could compromise the efficacy of your product.
